At their Miyagikyo distillery, the Nikka Whisky Company operates a pair of Scottish-made Coffey Stills, a design patented by an Irishman, Aeneas Coffey, in 1830. The Coffey Still allows for the continuous production of a spirit and is normally used to make grain whisky. Nikka, though, have used malted grain to produce this malted whisky. Rich, robust and slightly smoky, notes of clove and cinnamon are nicely tempered with a dried fruit and lemon sweetness and an oaky background.
